THE EWALLET WAY
MOBILE payment technology, such as the eWallet, has grown to be a multibillion-dollar industry because of the unparalleled convenience it offers users. Industry experts forecast that by 2022, the payment technology market transaction value worldwide will reach over US$13 trillion (RM52.67 trillion), and that’s huge!
Even in Malaysia you would have noticed a growing number of people using eWallets as their main mode of transactions. Having wads of cash may be a thing of the past as even vendors in pasar malams are offering cashless transactions these days!
EWallets allow you to do different things with your money, including shopping for clothes and groceries, getting takeaway, paying for cab hailing, and purchasing tickets. You can also pay your bills and send eGifts to friends and family via eWallets.
These cashless transactions have been mushrooming around the world, leaving consumers spoilt for choice. Countries like China, Norway, Britain and Japan have been leading the charge in cashless transactions and Malaysia is also a fast grower. According to a report by Bank Negara Malaysia last year, there are 40 eMoney issuers – five banks and 35 non-banks.
Malaysians started their cashless journey over 20 years ago with the Touch ‘n Go card. Remember how that first felt, when you didn’t have to use cash anymore at the toll booths and just breezed through without fumbling with your purse for the right change. The process was simple and contactless – a simple tap on the card allowed customers to make payments for transport, as well as collect points and rewards with banks and retail merchants alike nationwide.
Now, with Touch n Go’s eWallet, TNG Digital is transitioning users faster along the cashless journey. Passionate about the country’s future as a cashless society, TNG Digital is steadily driving the charge ahead as the leading eWallet for Malaysians to use anywhere, anytime, and thus helping to shape the ecosystem of mobile payments in Malaysia using cutting-edge technology.
Versatile, secure, and easy to use, the eWallet allows you to make purchases for retail (with an ever expanding list of merchants), pay for bills and utilities, or book movie tickets with just a tap of the app. No need to worry about running out of cash, or where the nearest ATM machine is.
Mobile or digital payments have also been driving technological innovation to provide consumers with a greater amount of flexibility, and convenience. The TNG eWallet, for example, also incorporates two unique features, RFID and PayDirect, which are set to give users greater flexibility, ease traffic flow and enable Malaysians to have a more seamless journey on the road.
Jom RFID
RFID is a new electronic toll payment system that uses a sticker to pass through toll. The RFID sticker, or RFID is linked to the Touch ‘n Go eWallet from which the fare is then deducted. Just make sure that the eWallet has sufficient balance and drivers will be on their way!
Registration for the pilot phase of RFID started in September last year. At the time, Touch ‘n Go were estimating to have 100,000 pilot testers for RFID. The results have been very encouraging, and the slots filled up fast!
Because public interest in RFID technology was very promising when it was first introduced, Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd reopened the registration for RFID for a second time in November. The RFID option is certainly more convenient - it is secure and theft proof, your eWallet can be reloaded anytime, anywhere, and you can even check all your transactions whenever the need arises. RFID is proof that the public wants a seamless and easier solution for toll payments and is on the lookout for it.
Cutting to the chase
PayDirect, a feature within the Touch ‘n Go eWallet can also be used for toll payments. This feature combines the TNG card usage with the eWallet. Although users tap the TNG Card at the toll gantry reader, their toll fee is deducted from the eWallet first. This new feature is currently in its pilot phase; being tested for toll payments along three highways in Kuala Lumpur: DUKE Highway (Duta UluKelang Expressway 1 & 2)
SMART (Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel)
LKSA (Lebuhraya KemuningShah Alam) in Kuala Lumpur
Just download the app, add your TNG card and activate PayDirect. Use the card to tap and pay for tolls at participating highways. Set up “Auto Reload” in your eWallet without any reloading fee, so that you will always have enough balance to make payment. If you activate PayDirect now, you can enjoy up to 20% toll rebates for up to 10 toll trips.
On top of all these nifty features, there will also be lots of rewards and all-year round promotions to look forward to when you use your TNG eWallet.
Syahrunizam Samsudin, CEO of TNG Digital Sdn Bhd said: “We are innovating and diversifying our offerings to stay relevant to our users. With technology and innovation, we are providing options that complement different lifestyles.”
