Researcher gets award
A RESEARCHER from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) School of Materials Engineering Assoc Prof Dr Ong Hui Lin (pic) has been selected as the recipient of the Endeavour Leadership Australia Cheung Kong Research Fellowship Award 2019.
UniMAP vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said the award would allow Dr Ong to undergo a short-term attachment programme at Deakin University in Geelong, Australia which would enable her to carry out her research work.
Prof Zul Azhar said the award sponsored by the Australian Department of Education and Training in collaboration with Cheung Kong Infrastructure (Holdings) Limited, aims to promote the exchange of knowledge between researchers and students from Australia and other Asian countries.
“I was informed that Dr Ong is one of the six researchers selected for the unique programme this year. This indirectly boosts UniMAP’s visibility in the arena of international research,” he said in a statement.
Prof Zul Azhar said nearly 30 UniMAP academic staff members in 2018 participated in attachment programmes at a number of international institutions in Prague, Taiwan, Japan, the United Kingdom, Greece, Poland, Hungary, Korea and France.
Dr Ong is also the first recipient from UniMAP who was conferred with the Fellowship Award for Women in Science from L’Oreal Malaysia.
“This is a success for the organisation as a whole. I am very grateful to the vice-chancellor who always provides UniMAP staff and researchers with the opportunity to conduct research without any hindrance.
“This is important because in the field of research, networking with international institutions will enhance the reputation of the research carried out. This includes the institution’s visibility in research and innovation,” she said.
