UNIVERSITI Utara Malaysia (UUM) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the University of Hull in the United Kingdom.

THIS is to enhance and strengthen cooperation opportunities in various fields.

The MoU was signed by UUM vice-chancellor Prof Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani while the University of Hull was represented by Lynne Barrow, Associate Dean (International) of the Faculty of Business, Law and Politics.

It was witnessed by Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Bakar, who is also a University of Hull alumnus, and Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir.

Prof Ahmad Bashawir said cooperation between the two universities would include student mobility, staff exchange and international conferences.

It would also involve research, student development activities and academic collaboration in double degree programmes.

He said the collaboration would benefit about 1,000 local students as well as those from neighbouring countries such as Singapore and Thailand when the MoU is implemented in September.

“UUM strives to enhance the areas of research, consultation and publication and has taken various initiatives to complement its educational excellence. It is also carrying out collaborations with various parties for mutual benefit,” he said.

UUM board of directors chairman Prof Datuk Dr Sudin Haron and deputy director-general (Higher Education) Prof Dr Cairul Iqbal Mohd Amin were also present. - Bernama
