Study trip to Taiwan
A GROUP of 24 students from INTI International University travelled to Hsinchu,Taiwan as part of a study trip recently.
It was sponsored by Chung Hua University, Taiwan, a private university located in the city.
Chung Hua University provided the accommodation and meals throughout their nine-day stay earlier this year. The students only paid for their flight expenses and travel insurance. Accompanied by one lecturer, the INTI students were from various faculties, had the opportunity to embrace the unique cultural aspects of Taiwan and forged new friendships with the students there.
With a history of almost 400 years, Hsinchu is one of the oldest cities in northern Taiwan. It is situated 90 minutes away from the city of Taipei, and also has a science and technology park that is modelled after Silicon Valley in the United States.
The INTI students attended workshops by Chung Hua University on how to set up a catering business, an engineering class on 3D modelling, honed their skills in creative writing and learned how to become an entrepreneur.
They even attempted to make their own mobile charger using solar cells.
The students were also taken to local attractions such as the TSMC Museum of Innovation, where they discovered how the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) became the world’s largest independent semiconductor foundry, the Image Museum of Hsinchu City, the Chenghuang Temple Night Market, the National Centre for Traditional Arts and the famous Taipei 101 building in Taipei.
INTI International University vice-chancellor Dr Joseph Lee said: “We are truly thankful to Chung Hua University for their generosity and hospitality.”
“Our students have seen how Taiwan has been in the forefront of technology.
“What is most interesting about the university is that its College of Management has earned the AACSB (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) Accreditation despite its young age,” he said.
Dr Lee added that it also incorporates artificial intelligence across all disciplines.
“We hope to learn from its wealth of experience so that INTI can implement appropriate learning styles to prepare our students for the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” he said.
A week after their return, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between INTI and Chung Hua University at INTI.
This is to enable student exchange and faculty exchange programmes between the two universities to facilitate an exchange of culture, ideas and best practices.
