KAJANG: Three Indonesian maids have been placed under police protection after fleeing from their “Tan Sri” employer, who they claimed abused them.

The Indonesian Embassy’s minister-counsellor Yusron B. Ambary confirmed the women had sought refuge at the consulate.

The three victims, aged between 25 and 41, are believed to have not only been physically abused but had their pay withheld.

Their escape came about when an unknown man brought them to the Indonesian Embassy after they had climbed the fence of their employer’s house in Country Heights, Kajang.

Embassy officials lodged a report on March 22 regarding the alleged abuse at the Tun HS Lee police station.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said investigations showed the three had worked with their employer for seven and four years, and six months respectively.

“Preliminary investigations also showed they ran away after being unable to put up with the rough treatment by the employer and his Puan Sri wife.

“All three claimed that they had been punched and slapped, as well as had their pay and passports withheld,” he said yesterday.

The victims were placed in a safehouse following an interim protection order.

“Investigations at the scene led to the seizure of two passports and an identity card which belonged to the victims that were held by the suspect’s secretary,” he said.

ACP Ahmad Dzaffir said there had been no signs of any physical, mental or sexual abuse on the three victims when they were sent for medical checks.

Sources said the suspect in question was not in the country at the time of the police report.

“Investigations are still underway and action will be taken according to the provisions of the law provided,” said the sources.

The case has been classified under Section 13 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and AntiSmuggling of Migrants Act 2007, for trafficking by means of force.
