When the stars finally aligned for Yeo and Lee

PETALING JAYA: On the day that Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin and IOI Properties Group chief executive officer Lee Yeow Seng held a reception to celebrate their marriage, the bride posted a sweet note on social media about how she could have met her future husband when she was a young girl.

In a post uploaded on her Facebook page, Yeo recalled growing up in the Gomali Estate in Segamat, Johor, where her mother had worked as a clerk.

“When I was in kindergarten, Gomali Estate was bought over by his father’s company. He grew up tagging along with his father on frequent visits to the clusters of estates in the area, including Gomali Estate. We didn’t meet. Or did we?”

The Bakri (Johor) MP also wrote about the possibility of them having met when as a child, she went to swim at Paya Lang Club near Gomali (an employee benefit) during the weekends and he stopped for ice cream at the club on his visits to the estates with his dad.

Similarly, she ended the sentence with: “We didn’t meet. Or did we?”

“Then one day, the stars aligned. We met. And things amazingly fell into place.

“On Jan 3, 2019, he proposed to me during a punting tour at my dream university and alma mater, Cambridge University, in the most unexpected way.”

Yeo, 36, who also wrote that she had lived a “fulfilled and happy single life for 35 years”, pledged her love for the man.

“He is the person whom I love and have made a commitment to continue to love, for the person he is.”

She ended the post with a passage from the Bible about love.

Along with yesterday’s posting is a picture of the couple, believed to be taken at the British university.

At the time of writing, the post had received over 15,000 likes and been shared over 1,000 times.

Some applauded her for having taken the time to attend to the recent Sungai Kim Kim pollution in Johor ahead of her wedding.

The parents of the couple – who registered their marriage on March 11 – hosted a lunch reception to celebrate their nuptials, at Le Meridien Putrajaya yesterday.

Yeo is a rising political star in DAP while Lee, 40, is a scion of one of Malaysia’s largest conglomerates. His father, IOI Corp founder Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng, 79, is fifth on the 2019 Forbes Malaysia Rich List with a net worth of US$5.4bil (RM22bil).
