SEPANG: AirAsia has expressed its commitment towards providing Malaysian graduates with well-paying first jobs, even as starting salaries generally showed a decline.

AirAsia Group’s Chief People and Culture Officer Varun Bhatia said the airline’s commitment is not just to help its employees financially but also their overall well-being.

“We remain committed to providing the best for our employees.

“But for us it’s not just about their income as that is just one component.

“We want to look after their physical, emotional and financial well-being.

“We help them to invest in themselves through our work benefits,” said Varun at a press conference after the launch of AirAsia’s new career website.

Varun was responding to the annual report by Bank Negara which showed that starting salaries over the past decade has been in decline.

The central bank found that this was due to an excess supply of graduates amid limited highskilled jobs.

Varun said AirAsia receives over a million job applications every year at various postings in the company all over the world.

“Our new careers website will provide potential talent with the opportunity to learn more about our business and the many roles we currently have on offer,” said Varun.

The new website was launched as part of AirAsia’s “People First Day”, an event celebrated to showcase employees’ well-being, technology programmes, learning and development initiatives within the company.

Varun said the new website provides quick and easy access to information about the recruitment process.

Job seekers will also be able to take a virtual tour of the airline’s headquarters “RedQ” to have a glimpse of its working environment.
