Hats off to Malaysian elders Gan Chee Kuan and Mong Yoon Weng for their wonderful and heartfelt letters, “Waiting for statesman who can forge Bangsa Malaysia” and “Bad memories softened by passing of time” respective­ly (The Star, March 29). With age comes wisdom. A big thank you to Gan Chee Kuan for the letter on the need for a statesman. It was inspiring, sir. And we will all wait for the same no matter how long it takes.

Yes, recess time in schools should be adjusted. It is annoying because teachers eat at 8am and students eat at 10am. How can they concentrat­e on their lessons when they are hungry?

Malaysia needs another Dato Onn Jaafar or Tunku Abdul Rahman to promote racial harmony, peace, prosperity and cultural integratio­n!

The Kedah state government and people must realise that our forests play a vital part in determinin­g our wellbeing. The moment they are gone, we may follow suit. It is therefore imperative for the state government to legislate laws to prevent the destructio­n of the forests. We do not need our neighbouri­ng states to tell us what to do to protect our forests. Can’t we do it ourselves? – William Ong How many more reports do the relevant authoritie­s need before they take action to protect the Ulu Muda Forest Reserve? Numerous reports have been carried by The Star on this, yet there seems to be no move on the part of the authoritie­s to stop the destructio­n of the forest.

> Motorcycle nuisance

Please stop motorcycli­sts from using Akleh or designate lanes for them to use, especially during peak hours. There have been so many accidents involving them. Stick to why Akleh was built.

How can pedestrian­s be king in Penang when all the walkways are invaded by parked motorcycle­s and we are pushed to walk on the road every day?
