Devan has fit and complete squad for cruncher against high-riding PKNS

-

PETALING JAYA: Petaling Jaya City coach K. Devan has that optimistic feeling when his team clash with high-riding PKNS in today’s Super League match at the Petaling Jaya Stadium.

That’s because Devan will have, for the first time this season, a fullstrength squad not bogged down by injuries or suspensions to players.

Devan worked on the weaknesses during the international break and he’s positive that his boys will notch their second win after six matches in the league.

“During the break, we played two friendly matches, and I am happy to say that all my best players are available for the game against PKNS,” said Devan, the former Kelantan and Negeri Sembilan coach.

“In all the six league games we played, the boys have been giving their all, and we have been losing by narrow margins. I had identified some weaknesses, especially when it comes to giving away free-kicks and penalties.

“I have told my boys to be calm and avoid giving away needless set pieces. Also, we have to convert our chances. That was lacking in the first six games, but it will change against PKNS.”

PKNS will be out to continue their gallant form in the league as the Klang Valley-based side are currently fourth with 11 points but PJ City are ready to play the spoilers.

Devan said he respects Datuk K. Rajagopal’s side as they have shown great resolve and determination in all their matches.

“PKNS are a balanced side and we know they can be really good with their set-pieces. We should focus on our game and get maximum points on our home ground.

“Also, we will be meeting our former player Kpah Sherman. It will be an interesting encounter for him and our boys. He is a threat, but some of my players are well versed with his game.”

Devan’s midfield architect Bae Beom-geun said the game against PKNS would be tricky, but if the team can stand together, they will surely get a result.

“We need teamwork to win this kind of games. PKNS are well-organised side and they have been pretty good in the league.

“But if we stay together as a team and break down their organisation, we can win the game. The coach has done lots of tactical analysis, and the international break is beneficial as we worked on our chemistry.”
