TWO Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) students were ranked among the world’s best in the recent ACCA examinations.

In the ACCA December 2018 examinations, Teo Loi Pin emerged 10th in the world (top in Malaysia) in the ACCA Top Affiliates while Lau Jia Yi came in at fourth placing in the world (top in Malaysia) for Strategic Business Leader paper.

Teo previously also excelled in the ACCA December 2017 examination where he was ranked eighth in the world (top in Malaysia) for Paper P1 Governance, Risk and Ethics. His impressive ranking in ACCA Top Affiliates demonstrates his consistent strong performance as it is awarded based on his results across all Strategic Professional papers, achieved on the first attempt.

A TAR UC Bachelor of Commerce graduate, Teo said that he was driven to succeed because he had an urge for self-fulfilment. “I wanted to complete my ACCA with something good. This motivated me to work harder and smarter,” he added.

Lau who is currently pursuing the Bachelor of Commerce programme, on the other hand, shared the reason that motivated her to do well.

“I have always noticed the achievements of TAR UC students being published in the newspapers and social media.

“This has motivated me to work hard so that one day, I would be featured too.” she said.

Both of them readily credited TAR UC for helping them to achieve their outstanding results.

On the challenges he faced in preparing for the examination, Teo said: “I spent more time to ensure I covered the syllabus as much as possible for the exam.”

Lau said it is vital to strike a balance between academic learning and extra-curricular activities as both train them in personal development.

“We can balance both studying and extra-curricular activities by multi-tasking, prioritising tasks and completing them within the deadlines.”

On his future plans, Teo intends to start his career in auditing, which provides greater exposure to different industries.

Lau plans to take two optional papers in June 2019 and pass them on the first attempt.

“After that, I would like to start work in Singapore. TAR UC has helped prepare us for our career by providing internship opportunities while pursuing our degree.

“In this way, we have been exposed to what is expected of us even before we set foot into the working world,” she said.
