Independent candidate irked over missing banners

-

SEREMBAN: Independent Rantau candidate R. Malarvizhi was heading towards the district police station in Seremban 2 near here when she realised that one of the only nine banners that she had put up for the by-election had gone missing.

The curious 51-year-old housewife then approached a group of workers who were busy trimming trees and asked them if they had seen the banner she put up at a roundabout near the SerembanPort Dickson trunk road near Mambau.

“Before I could get an answer, I saw my banner piled up together with the branches they had cut.

“When I asked them why they removed my banner, they said they had to because they were told to trim the trees,” she said.

She added that she had spent RM1,500 to print 10 banners. She kept one of them at home.

She was not upset over the incident because the workers were just doing their job. She had put up her banners on Tuesday evening.

However, Malarvizhi, who is contesting under the tree logo, is upset that a banner she had put up at a surau in Rantau was removed.

“I was given permission by the surau committee to put up the banner, but it’s gone missing.”

Asked on the feedback from the people after 12 days of campaigning, Malarvizhi said support was slowly growing.

“I’m sure the voters are taking me seriously,” she added.

Earlier, Malarvizhi had earlier lodged a police report against Pakatan Harapan candidate Dr S. Streram, who was present at an event where RM75,000 worth of food coupons were given away to pupils from five schools in Rantau on March 28.

She had gone to the Seremban 2 police station to find out new developments in the case.

She said she was happy with the progress of the probe.
