Video of Streram talking about ‘furry kids’ tickles ribs

-

SEREMBAN: A video clip of Pakatan Harapan candidate Dr S. Streram introducing his daughters and cats raised chuckles among viewers confused by his use of Bahasa Malaysia.

The video clip was uploaded on the Facebook page Tentera Troll Kebangsaan Malaysia (Malaysian National Troll Army).

In the video, Dr Streram, speaking in Bahasa Melayu, introduces himself and says he has three “anak manusia” (human children) and two “anak bulu-bulu” (literally translated as furry children), the latter referring to his pet cats Shanti and Krishna.

“Shanti is passive. If she doesn’t see me or my wife, she will throw a tantrum.

“Krishna is very agile but not very friendly,” he said.

He also shows photos of his two daughters Dr Priya Dashni, who is a veterinarian, and Dr Premila, a dentist.

He jokes that all his children, including the “furry” ones, don’t like listening to him.

When asked by a person off camera whether he listened to his wife when he decided to work as a volunteer in Sudan and Afghanistan, he declines to comment.

However, he says he hopes that his furry children will become doctors and listen to him.

The video clip has been shared 1,000 times and received more than 1,300 comments so far.

Some netizens took a swipe at Dr Streram’s command of Bahasa Melayu.

“Why is he referring to his children as anak manusia and his pets as anak bulu-bulu? I cannot understand his Malay,” commented Haris Fadillah Muhamad.

Another person said that based on his style of speaking, Dr Streram seemed to be a nice person.

The Rantau polling day on Saturday will see a four-cornered fight between Dr Streram, Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and independent candidates R. Malarvizhi and Mohd Nor Yassin.
