Mohd Nor unfazed by competition

SEREMBAN: Independent candidate Mohd Nor Yassin believes he has done his best and is confident going into tomorrow’s by-election.

The former lecturer rolled out his manifesto, aiming to continue the struggles of late PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat.

Mohd Nor, 67, stood as a PAS candidate in Gemencheh in the 2013 general election.

He claimed that support from the Rantau people was good, adding that his small group of volunteers had worked hard despite their lack of resources.

He said he did everything himself as an independent candidate, unlike when he was in PAS in 2013.

“Though my audience is smaller, I try to maximise my campaign by asking my friends to spread the word online,” he said yesterday.

Mohd Nor acknowledged that he was fighting against popular candidates such as Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Pakatan Harapan’s Dr S. Streram. But he was unperturbed, saying he believed in the strength of his message.

His manifesto highlighted the teachings of Niz Aziz, including a push for Islamic-based progress, well-rounded human development and multiracial unity.

“My team and I are campaigning as much as we can. We will leave the rest to God,” he said.

Although he mostly shied away from publicity during the two-week campaigning period, he said he had been busy canvassing the areas in Rantau and meeting voters.

“We have put up banners, flags, posters and bunting in Linsum, my base in Kampung Sega and Kuala Sawah,” he said.
