The Star Malaysia

Designed for low spin and better ball speeds

FOLLOWING the introduction of the new Titleist TS4 driver, the company says it has come up with a means of providing golfers with ultra-low spin performance as well as speed and distance gains.

The TS4, which made its debut at the Valero Texas Open last week, is said to be a high-speed ultra low-spin design that challenges the notion that a driver designed for good spin reduction cannot produce top-level ball speeds.

Available from late June, the TS4 merges technologies developed through the Titleist Speed Project with a low, forward centre of gravity that neutralises spin to produce a longer, more piercing ball flight, the company said in a statement.

“TS drivers have exceeded all our expectations both on Tour and with golfers around the world,” said Titleist Golf Clubs marketing vice-president Josh Talge. “When it comes to driver performance, TS has shown that it’s no longer a one or twospeeds horse race.” The mechanics used to drive ball speed in the TS2 and TS3 drivers have been enhanced in the TS4’s 430cc speed chassis. The driver comes with an ultrathin titanium crown that allows weight to be redistributed low and forward for reduced spin. With its radial variable face thickness that reduces weight, the TS4 delivers faster ball and increased forgiveness.

It also has a streamlined shape and the aerodynamic design features a 430cc classic, pear shape. The low and forward centre of gravity position (5mm forward vs TS2) – highlighted by the placement of the SureFit Flat weight – generates ultra-low spin for a better ball flight. Titleist’s patented SureFit Hosel, featuring 16 independent loft and lie settings, allows for additional ball flight optimisation through fitting.

The Titleist TS4 drivers comes in lofts of 8.5, 9.5 and 10.5 degrees. It carries a suggested retail price of RM2,260.
