New MB continues legacy of state leaders from Muar

-

JOHOR BARU: The appointment of Bukit Kepong assemblyman Dr Sahruddin Jamal as the 17th Johor Mentri Besar continues the legacy of state leaders coming from Muar.

Political analyst Dr Mohd Akbal Abdullah said most of the past Johor mentris besar had come from Muar, including Tan Sri Hassan Yunus, Tan Sri Othman Saat, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Othman.

“Even Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin was born and raised in Muar and Dr Sahruddin is continuing such fine legacy,” he said when contacted yesterday.

“I believe the rakyat in Johor have taken his appointment as the new Mentri Besar as being very positive.

“He is young, energetic, physically able and educated, which are the qualities needed for becoming a leader or in his case, a Mentri Besar,” he said.

Mohd Akbal also pointed out that Dr Sahruddin’s real test as the new Mentri Besar would be forming his state executive council.

He said it was important for Dr Sahruddin to pick his own team who could work together with him in carrying out his vision for the state.

Mohd Akbal added that he believes the first-term assemblymen would stick to the agreed quota among Pakatan Harapan parties for the state executive council lineup.

Presently, there are 10 state executive councillors comprising four from DAP, and two each from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, PKR, and Amanah.

Pakatan Harapan has a total of 39 out of 56 state assemblyman.
