‘By-elections were never easy for govt’
Historically, it’s harder for the ruling party to win, says Anwar
KUANTAN: It is inaccurate to label Pakatan Harapan’s streak of byelection losses as a trend, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The PKR president said by-elections were historically never easy for the government.
“Pakatan won convincingly in the Balakong, Seri Setia and Port Dickson by-elections.
“Sometimes, when the voters know the government is strong they want to send us a signal,” he said after opening the Pahang PKR office here yesterday.

lightly as he could sense Pakatan was facing a bit of a problem in Malay areas.
“We have to scrutinise the recent developments and take the necessary steps. Pakatan has to find ways to explain to the people in a good manner,” he said.
“We should not blame the voters. We have to try to approach them instead.”
On the viral video of a police car being stopped and searched by political party supporters during the Rantau by-election, Anwar said he would ask the police to take the appropriate action.
“There is no reason for party workers to behave arrogantly as if to take over the duties of the police,” said Anwar.
“If this is found to be true, I will support the police in taking strict action because this party is one that respects the law.”
Negri Sembilan acting state police chief Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop said two of the five men identified for stopping and inspecting the Mobile Patrol Vehicle have been detained.
