PETALING JAYA: Sin Li Jane is making a statement of intent in the Thailand Open.

The 26-year-old, who was behind teammate Nerosha Keligit in the first day of the qualifying round, blazed the lanes in her last five games to take the top spot with 3,275 pins at the Blu-O Rhythm and Bowl in Bangkok yesterday.

Li Jane, the 2018 Qubica AMF Bowling World Cup runner-up, is eager to win her first title of the year and based on her performance yesterday, it looks like her wait will end in Bangkok.

Nerosha dropped to second with 3,157 pins, as she could only muster 987 in her last five games.

Shalin Zulkifli completed the top three Malaysian cast with 3,100 pins.

Only the top 22 players make the cut for the final.

Meanwhile, youngster Tun Ameerul Hakim Tun Hasnul Azam was not deterred by the tricky lane patterns as he kept his fine form to stay ahead in the 74-player qualifying round of the men’s Open.

The 20-year-old finished with 3,374 pins from 15 games.

Only the top 30 finishers after 15 games qualify for today’s final.

“I’m glad that everything went well. I was focused on the job of getting to the final,” said Ameerul.

“The lanes were pretty tricky in the last five games, and I had to find a way to adapt.

“I’m confident of doing well here but I must keep my focus on each frame, get my timing right.

“Last year, I finished second, and I hope to go one step better,” added Ameerul, who finished second to South Korea’s Park Geon-ha last year.

Ahmad Muaz Fishol (3,309) and Muhd Nur Aiman (3,372) were second and third respectively as they too qualified for the final.
