Turtles hitman Tchetche finds his scoring boots

PETALING JAYA: The nightmare is finally over for Kipre Tchetche.

Terengganu’s Ivory Coast striker, who failed to score in nine Super League matches, has found his scoring boots when he scored a brace to help the Turtles beat Felda United 2-1 at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu on Friday.

Before the match, Tchetche had whetted his appetite with a goal to end his drought in their 3-1 victory over minnows Kelantan United in the FA Cup.

Tchetche, who was on the verge of getting sacked, certainly can heave a sigh of relief with three goals in two matches.

“Finally, I can smile. It feels so good to score more than one goal against Felda. I must thank my teammates for their contributions,” said Kipre.

“It was a good team performance. Although I scored both goals I’m not a match winner - the whole team got us the win.”

Tchetche revealed that he was not upset when he received two warning letters due to his barren run.

“It happens. The club have a valid reason since I was not performing. They know what I’m capable of and when you don’t score, it’s normal for the club to get worried.

“Yes, I lost confidence during that period, but I made sure I worked hard every day. I always do my best on the pitch and whether I score or not, that’s secondary. I only want Terengganu to win.”

Tchetche also wants to say a huge thank you to the fans.

“They were very supportive. Every match they constantly told me not to give up. Since I started my career in Terengganu, they have been brilliant.”

Terengganu coach Irfan Bakti was also relieved his hitman has finally found his finishing touch.

“I’m so glad for him. He’s the type of player who gives 100%,” said Irfan.

“I hope he regains his confidence and continue to do what he does best – scoring goals.”
