Ee Wei’s long wait to get back into the fray is over

PETALING JAYA: A rejuvenated Toh Ee Wei will finally make her return after spending almost three months out of the national team.
The 18-year-old shuttler partnered Pearly Tan to finish runners-up at last year’s World Junior Championships and much was expected from the pair.
But Ee Wei decided to quit in early February after suffering from a chronic sinus problem.
Now that she is back on her feet, she is ready to reunite with her teammates.
“I have been given a clean bill of health and I should have no problems getting back on court,” said Ee Wei.
“I can’t wait to get back as I missed playing in tournaments.”
After their silver-medal performance at the world meet in Canada, Ee Wei and Pearly were drafted into the senior team at the Academy Badminton of Malaysia (ABM) in December.
But she had to undergo nose surgery and was subsequently on medical leave before she left the squad.
Ee Wei was overjoyed when she received a letter from the Badminton Association of Malaysia to rejoin the squad.
“I believe BAM is the only place for me if I want to bring my game to a higher level.
“I have to thank BAM for accepting me and for their never-ending support.
“It will be difficult catching up with Pearly as she has been training without me.
“I really miss playing with Pearly, I hope I can partner her again but that will depend on the coach.”
