Tok Mat sworn in as Rantau assemblyman
SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan ( pic) has been sworn in as Rantau assemblyman for a fourth term.
He has been the representative of the constituency since 2004.
The Umno deputy president, who won the April 13 by-election, took his oath of office and signed his letter of appointment before Speaker Datuk Zulkefly Mohamad Omar at the opening of the first meeting of the second session of the 14th State Legislative Assembly here yesterday.
Mohamad beat Dr S. Streram of Pakatan Harapan and two independents – housewife R. Malarvizhi and former lecturer Mohd Nor Yassin.
The State Assembly now has 20 Pakatan and 16 Barisan representatives.
Negri Sembilan Yang Dipertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir opened the meeting.
Also present was the Tunku Ampuan Besar, Tuanku Aishah Rohani binti Almarhum Tengku Besar Mahmud.
In his Royal Address, Tuanku Muhriz called for the spirit of togetherness to be nurtured early by educating schoolchildren on their social and moral responsibilities.
He said this early education should start at home with parents playing their role.
“To ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy this harmony, we need to strengthen their spirit of togetherness in society, also assimilated through a variety of activities participated by students of various races,” he added.
The Negri Ruler said the state’s economic performance showed encouraging improvement with an increase in approved investments for all sectors, from RM1.41bil in 2017 to RM2.86bil in 2018.
“Of these, over 56% was contributed by foreign investment.
“This growth is expected to be sustained in 2019 with continued support from the private sector,” he added. — Bernama.
