Seven teams will appeal against 50% grant reduction

-

PETALING JAYA: Seven teams who were handed a 50% cut on their annual grant for failing to meet the 2019 season registration deadline will make an appeal.

They have been given until April 29 to submit their appeals to reverse or reduce the decision made by the Malaysia Football League (MFL).

The teams are Super League outfits – Kuala Lumpur, Felda United and Melaka – the other four are Premier League teams Kelantan, Police, Sarawak and Penang.

Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan, Penang, Police and Sarawak were also slapped with transfer ban for the second transfer window from May 2-29 for being repeat offenders.

The teams were also ordered to submit their financial documents for the 2019 season including documents showing that they have settled the players’ salary arrears.

The teams will be docked three points if they fail to comply.

Teams who have yet to complete their registration due to incomplete documents especially financial records are given 30-days to provide MFL with their latest records.

Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) secretary-general Nokman Mustafa said the association will hand in their appeal letter soon.

“The delay was due to the change in leadership. Lots of things have been happening within the association but we are committed to rectify the matter. We hope the MFL will consider our appeal,” said Nokman,

Melaka’s secretary-general Farhan Ibrahim explained that the delay in completing the documents is due to MFL’s request for sponsorship letters.

“Most of our sponsors are government-linked companies, we had problems getting the letters from them. That’s why we missed the deadline,” said Farhan.

Felda United have also confirmed that they will submit an appeal letter with the necessary documents today.
