THE Star Education Fair is back.
Limkokwing University of Creative Technology enrolment department senior executive Nantha Kuma said education fairs are a good platform to explore scholarship opportunities.
A common misconception about private higher education is that it is expensive, he said at the Star Education Fair 2019 balloting session at Menara Star last Wednesday to vie for the most strategic booths for the fair next month.
“However, many private colleges and universities offer different types of scholarships to ease students’ financial burdens.
“Through fairs like this, we are able to promote our scholarships and new courses,” he said.
More than 50 exhibitors turned up at the balloting session.
The Star Education Fair will take place on May 25 and 26 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Students unsure of what to do next can meet experts on pre-university education and representatives from colleges and universities.
They will brief students and parents on a wide range of certificate, foundation, diploma and postgraduate courses as well as professional qualifications.
The biggest exhibitors are Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Manipal International University and Management & Science University (MSU) with 18, eight and six booths respectively.
“Students who visit our booths at the fair will get to know more about the scholarships we offer.
“Among them is a Financial Needs Scholarship where, eligible students who visit us during these two days will receive a 50% discount on their tuition fees, for all courses ranging from pre-university to undergraduate courses.
“We are also offering cheaper registration fees for prospective students who sign up with us during the fair. Instead of paying RM500, students pay RM50,” Nantha added.
Students can expect one-on-one counselling with Limkokwing University of Creative Technology lecturers.
This, Nantha said, will give students who are unsure of their path a clearer vision.
“Many students today follow what their parents want them to do, and some follow their friends.
“By speaking to lecturers and experts, it will open up their mind and give them an insight into the different courses available,” he shared.
Manipal International University business development and marketing executive Kesavan Sundra Sagar said the varsity continues to take part in the Star Education Fair due to good responses it received in the past.
“We are offering 100% bursaries for our foundation programmes.
“We are also offering one-year cost-free hostels, early bird registration fee of RM300 instead of RM1,000, and scholarships up to 50% for our degree programmes,” Kesavan said.
Education fairs, Kesavan said, gives students an idea on the courses and bursaries offered by the universities.
MSU strategic communication executive Hazli Halaluddin said the varsity is offering its MSU Outstanding Rewards Scholarship (MORE) and President’s Scholarship.
The MORE Scholarship is for well-rounded students who have scored more than 5As in their SPM, with outstanding achievements in extracurricular activities and have represented the state or country in competitions.
“With MORE, we want to empower students to participate actively in sports and simultaneously, produce more athletes for ourcountry.
“Our target visitors at the fair are school leavers and students who are still waiting for their UPU results.
“Speaking over the phone doesn’t give the same effect. By meeting, they will be able to see what we offer, better understand (and clear their doubts),” he added.
The Star Education Fair will take place at Halls 4 and 5 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 11am to 6pm on May 25 and 26. Admission is free.
Booths are still available for interested exhibitors.
