Star journalist wins Best Media Award
PUTRAJAYA: The Star Media Group journalist Sandhya Menon has won the Best Media Award (for print) 2019 from the Social Security Organisation (Socso) in conjunction with Labour Day.
Sandhya received the award, certificate and prize money of RM5,000 from Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
She was selected for her coverage and reports on issues relating to Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET).
“I didn’t expect to be shortlisted, let alone win.
“So, when Socso called, it took five minutes for me to digest the news,” said Sandhya.
She attributed her success to her colleagues who helped mould her.
“A supportive and positive work environment brings out the best in people,” she said.
The Labour Day celebration, themed “Pekerja Amanah, Aspirasi Negara”, was also attended by Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran, his deputy Datuk Mahfuz Omar and Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Bakar.
In his speech, Dr Mahathir said the theme for the celebration this year was to emphasise to all Malaysians, especially workers, to carry out their job responsibly with trust and integrity to develop the country.
“The good relations between the government, employers and employees will ensure strong growth in the economy.
“Despite sometimes having opposing opinions, in the end a win-win resolution can be achieved and bring benefit to the people,” he said.
