Factory worker beaten near Second Link complex

-

ISKANDAR PUTERI: A factory operator was badly injured after being beaten up by a group of men following an altercation at Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB) at the Second Link in Tanjung Kupang here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the incident was believed to have started at KSAB when the 21-year-old victim, who was riding his motorcycle together with his friend from Singapore, got into a misunderstanding with an unidentified motorcyclist at around 6.20pm on Tuesday .

“When the victim and his friend arrived at the Tanjung Kupang toll plaza, they were stopped by 10 men who started shouting vulgarities at them.

“The victim managed to escape, and rode to a nearby petrol station to fuel his motorcycle.

“But then one of the suspects followed him and hit him with a helmet,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

ACP Dzulkhairi added that the other suspects then joined in and also hit the victim.

He said the victim sought treatment at a clinic in Gelang Patah before he lodged a police report at 7.28pm.

“Investigations show that the victim and one of the suspects were involved in a heated argument while exiting the Customs post at KSAB,” he said.

ACP Dzulkhairi also said that investigations were being carried out to find the suspects, and the case was classified under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons.

He urged those who witnessed the incident or have any information regarding the suspects to contact the state police hotline at 07-2212999 or lodge a report at the nearest police station.
