Vacant posts in Bukit Aman to be filled soon, says Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Vacant posts among Bukit Aman’s top brass, including those of the Deputy IGP and Special Branch director, will be filled soon, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Home Minister said there was no problem filling the posts despite the retirement of several Bukit Aman directors.

“I believe all appointments will be settled soon.

“It has to go through the process of submitting the name to the Prime Minister, who will then bring it to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (for consent),” Muhyiddin told reporters yesterday after witnessing the handing over of duties from outgoing IGP Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun to his successor Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador.

The other vacant posts are that of CID director and Narcotic Crimes Investigation Department director.

The vacant posts are being held by those in acting capacities.

Asked whether the post of Deputy IGP will be settled within a week, Muhyiddin said he believed it would be concluded soon.

On another matter, Muhyiddin reminded the organisers of today’s rally, which is supposedly held to “defend the sovereignty of Islam”, to abide by the laws.

“If they follow the regulations stated under the Peaceful Assembly Act, then it will not be a problem.

“The organisers must ensure that the rally is conducted in a peaceful manner,” he added.

The rally in the city centre today is being organised by Gerakan Pembela Ummah and NGOs.

The organisers have declared that the event, dubbed “Gathering 405”, was to protest against the Pakatan Harapan government for allegedly sidelining the Malays and Muslims on issues pertaining to the Rome Statute, International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, Unified Examination Certificate and the Subang Jaya temple riot that led to the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.

Muhyiddin rejected the notion that Pakatan had sidelined the Malays and Muslims.

“Fifty-three cases of insults to Islam and Prophet Muhammad have been investigated; eight of these have been brought to the courts.

“As a (leader in a) multi-racial and multi-religious country, I would like to advise Malaysians to preserve the harmony between races. Do not be easily influenced by those who take the opportunity to gain political interests and fuel racial and religious sentiments,” said Muhyiddin.

He also implored the people to accept the fact that Malaysians come from diverse backgrounds.

The Pakatan government is committed towards upholding Islam as the official religion of the federation as per the Federal Constitution, he added.

The organisers must ensure that the rally is conducted in a peaceful manner.
