Police allow ‘405’ rally to be held at city centre

PETALING JAYA: The “405” rally, supposedly held to defend the “sovereignty of Islam” will be allowed to go on, says the police.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Fahmi Visuvanathan Abdullah said the organisers had complied with the regulations under the Peaceful Assembly Act.

ACP Fahmi said they had already submitted a notice to the police to hold the rally today.

“We already met the organisers to discuss the rules and conditions.

“It will be held between 2pm and 5pm, and the participants are expected to march from Masjid Jamek to the Sogo shopping complex,” he said.

ACP Fahmi said police would be deployed to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of all.

“We will also assist in traffic control for the convenience of road users as a congestion is expected to build up.

“All parties must comply with the dos and don’ts, so that there will be no untoward incident,” he added.

The rally is organised by Gerakan Pembela Ummah and several NGOs.

Dubbed “Gathering 405”, the organisers claimed it was called to protest against the Pakatan Harapan government for allegedly sidelining the Malays and Muslims on issues such as the Rome Statute, International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, Unified Examination Certificate, the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim in the Seafield temple riots in Subang Jaya and others.

Rally director Kamaruzaman Mohamad called on participants to adhere to the regulations, describing it as “a peaceful rally”.

“Everyone must follow the orders of their respective team leaders and come early to perform the Zohor prayers at Masjid Jamek before the march to Sogo.

“Don’t bring or carry any weapons or sharp objects,” he said, adding that participants should not respond to any form of provocations.

Kamaruzaman said all participants should also disperse in an orderly manner after the rally ends and to pick up any rubbish left on the ground.

“We hope everything will go on smoothly as our aim is to have a peaceful gathering to voice our concerns,” he added.
