Ronaldo joins Perak
Seladang also rope in Careca to help bring in the goals
IPOH: Perak have snapped up Brazilians Ronaldo and Careca to add more firepower in the team for the remainder of the Super League season.
But, no, they are not the two football legends although they have similar names!
The Seladang have named 28-year-old Ronaldo Henrique Silva and 23-year-old Careca, whose full name is Raianderson Da Costa Morais, from the Brazilian clubs - Esporte Clube XV de Novembro and Atletico Acreano respectively on a six-month agreement each.
Silva replaced Gilmar Jose while Careca stepped in for Wander Luiz.
Perak are lying in eighth spot in the 12-team Super League standing following a series of underwhelming performances this season.
In their last match, they drew 3-3 with PKNS FC.
Perak Football Association president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu hoped the presence of the two players would trigger Perak to step up in the remaining Super League and FA Cup matches.
“We had a discussion with Gilmar and decided to drop him as it’s the best decision for the team,” said Faizal during a press conference here yesterday.
“Wander however had to return to Brazil because his son is ill. We pray that all is well for him.
“We like to thank both of them for their services.
“They played their parts to help Perak win the Malaysia Cup last year,” he said.
Faizal said Perak were still confident of doing well this season despite the reshuffle.
“We’ve to be realistic and rebuild the squad.
“We’ve high hopes in the FA Cup and we hope to win at least one trophy this year,” he added.
Meanwhile, Perak coach Mehmet Durakovic hoped Ronaldo and Careca would play their parts to revive Perak’s image as one of the top teams in the country.
“I hope they can help fix our goalscoring problem,” said the Australian.
“They’ve a fantastic future ahead of them,” he said, adding that both were recommended by his friends, who have seen them play.
“They are good and so far, I’m happy with their commitment in training,” he added.
