Six more non-profit groups receive Star Foundation aid

-

PETALING JAYA: Star Media Group will continue to support non-profit organisations to further their noble causes through Star Foundation.

Group chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow said such organisations played a role in delivering sustainable, meaningful and impactful social initiatives to make Malaysia a better place.

“From health causes to supporting disabled and marginalised communities, non-profits like you have put in a lot of good work and commitment to address community issues that are still prevalent in our society,” he said.

Yesterday, the foundation distributed a total of RM177,520 to six non-profit organisations that help the underprivileged and disabled.

They are Pink Triangle Foundation, Insaf Malaysia, Diabetes Malaysia, Lovely Disabled Home, Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation Klang and Selangor Cheshire Home.

Dr Rabiathul Badariah, programme manager of Pink Triangle Foundation’s 2nd Chance project, said the RM20,000 it received would go towards improving its plan to help mothers and children living with HIV.

“We created this programme five years ago when we noticed that women and children living with HIV were neglected, as the focus had been to reach out to communities such as drug users, sex workers or transgenders living with the virus.

“One objective is to provide mental health support to the women and children as many are traumatised after experiencing domestic violence and stigmatisation,” she said.

Insaf Malaysia, which builds homes for orang asli communities, said the RM70,000 it received would be used to build two more homes in yet-to-be-determined locations.

In addition to donating funds, Star Foundation, under its Wheelchair Programme, also presented two wheelchairs to recipients with cerebral palsy – Chan Shit Yee, 34, and Tham Zhi Ying, 19.

Tham’s mother Carol Law, 46, was happy that her daughter had a new wheelchair.

“She used to have a bigger, bulkier one and felt uncomfortable as it would become unbalanced,” the 46-year-old said.

Star Foundation is the charitable arm of Star Media Group aimed at delivering meaningful initiatives with lasting outcomes to a diverse group of beneficiaries.
