Olusegun wants to make sure Selangor regain status

PETALING JAYA: Ifedayo Olusegun is not being cocky but he wants to win every match with Selangor.

On top of that, the Nigerian striker also wants to take the Red Giants to the top of the Super League and lead them to their 34th Malaysia Cup this season.

The 28-year-old Olusegun feels it’s his duty to help Selangor live up to their reputation.

“I want to win every game with Selangor and help them regain their legendary reputation,” said Olusegun, who previously played for Riffa Sports Club in Bahrain.

“It’s a good feeling to join Selangor because it’s the biggest club in Malaysia with lots of great history.

“I’m excited to start my third chapter here,” he said.

Olesegun is no stranger in the league as he has played for Felda United in 2017 and scored nine goals in 17 games. He was also a sensation for Melaka last year when he ended the season with 14 goals in 15 games.

Olesegun played for coach B. Sathianathan in Felda and is looking forward to renewing his good rapport with the former national coach.

“It’s easier to play for a coach who has worked with me before. I know what he wants, and he knows what I can do,” he said.

“There is no conflict of ideas. I believe it’ll be a seamless transition into the team.”

He is also looking forward to play with his former teammates like Wan Zack Wan Haikal, K. Prabakaran and Farizal Harun in Selangor.

“Malaysia is the best place to play football. I only have fond memories of my time here. The players are united, and the fans are warm too,” he said.

“Melaka fans cheered for me when they saw me in Shah Alam last week. That was amazing. I’m sure Selangor fans will show me their support when I start playing.”

Selangor are fourth with 18 points and are aiming for a topthree finish in the Super League.
