Darko brightens up KL’s hopes of fixing their backline

-

PETALING JAYA: Struggling Kuala Lumpur have signed up Darko Markovic to beef up their defence.

The 31-year-old Montenegrin, who played as a defensive midfielder for Melaka, also has a knack for scoring goals. In eight matches with the Mousedeers, he has scored twice.

Coach Chong Yee Fatt is relieved that KL have added some reinforcements.

“Throughout the season, we have been having problems with our backline. We needed someone who can cover the centrebacks and Darko fits the bill,” said Yee Fatt.

“He will give us some muscle and power. With his inclusion, midfielders Paolo Josue and Zhafri Yahya will have more freedom going forward.

“Darko replaces Sylvano (Comvalious) who has joined Arema Malang in Indonesia.”

Yee Fatt added that KL, who are bottom in the Super League, will not be signing any more players for now but will reconsider should the need arise.

“At the moment, the team look okay and the transfer window only closes on May 29.

“We will be assessing the players before the deadline. Right now, I’m happy with what I have.”

Markovic is expected to start in KL’s FA Cup quarter-final return leg against Felda United at the Tun Abdul Razak Stadium today.

The first leg ended in a 3-3 draw. “This match is like a final to us. Felda have got some excellent players and their record at home have been impressive.

“My players should not be thinking about away goal rules, extra time or penalty. We must win in 90 minutes,” added Yee Fatt.
