Firing blanks is giving Felda’s Christie sleepless nights

-

PETALING JAYA: Felda United winger D. Christie Jayaseelan is looking for a fresh start in the second half of the Super League season.

The Kajang local, who was plagued by niggling injuries in the early stages of the season, is now injury-free and is raring to show his marked improvement in tonight’s match against Melaka at the Hang Jebat Stadium.

Last season, Christie scored eight goals in 18 appearances in the Premier League but this season he has yet to find the net and it is a big bother to him.

To add to his worries, relegation candidate Felda are languishing at the 11th place in the 12-team standings with eight points after 12 matches.

“I have to admit that my performance in the first half of the season was below par and I’m personally disappointed not to have done better,” said the 32-year-old.

“I want to score goals and create assists for my teammates. This is my personal target.”

“We have been dropping too many points in the first half and this is because of silly errors. I believe the players are smarter now.”

“We have to play catch-up to get away from the relegation zone as soon as possible. We now need to collect as many points as possible.”

The Fighters have been plagued by injury crisis with skipper Hadin Azman, Danial Amier Norhisham, Jasazrin Jamaluddin and Khairul Amri Mohd Kamal on the crock list.

Midfielder Hadin however is expected to make his return against Melaka tonight and Christie said it would be a massive boost for the team.

“Hadin has been our best player before his injury. He was our go-to guy when we needed results. He’s returning to the team at the right time and I hope our fortune can change after this,” said Christie.
