LUMPUR: With the Sudirman Cup just around the corner, national No. 1 women’s singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei is getting ready to rumble.

The 19-year-old, who has spent the last six weeks on the sidelines with stomach ailments, is hoping to get fully fit and ready for the world mixed team meet which begins in Nanning, China, this Sunday.

Jin Wei seems to be on her way to a full recovery as was evident during yesterday’s training session with Soniia Cheah and Ho Yen Mei.

“I was a bit out of breath but it feels better than just doing light training because I enjoy the hard work especially when I’m preparing for a major tournament,” said Jin Wei.

“My condition is okay now and I’m getting myself back slowly without rushing myself, and right now I can cope with the training.

“Hopefully when the time comes to a match on court I can reach a

higher level.”

The world No. 25 has been praised by her coach Datuk Tey Seu Bock for her tremendous strength and commitment to training during her period of recovery.

“I’ve had a lot of ups and down in my career and difficult times but I have to accept it and not complain about it,” she said.

“I think this will make me a stronger person mentally, I don’t want to let anything beat me.”

And if Jin Wei is fit to play, she will have a hard task on her hands as Malaysia are drawn with China and India in Group D.

The two countries boast of having formidable women’s singles lineups.

China have the luxury of fielding either world No. 3 Chen Yufei or world No. 6 He Bingjiao while India could throw in world No. 5 P. V. Sindhu or world No. 9 Saina Nehwal.

“There is no pressure on me as I’m going out there to learn and enjoy myself and do what I can,” she said.

“I also really like playing in team events because teammates cheer for each other and we are more motivated than playing in a usual Open tournament where we have to fight on our own.

“So if I get to play in the Sudirman Cup it will be interesting and I will fight for every point.”
