IPOH: Residents of Kampung Air Ganda in Hulu Perak can observe Ramadan and prepare for Hari Raya Aidilfitri in comfort now that their supply of fresh water has returned.

Since April 9, they had been relying on lorry tankers after the Air Ganda water treatment plant was closed due to arsenic contamination.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said with the completion of a 11.5kmlong water pipe project, the villagers could now use the water for drinking, washing and cooking.

The supply is also helped by a new booster pump from the Lawin treatment plant.

Ahmad Faizal said the water supply returned to normal on Tuesday.

“The project was completed in five weeks, well before the projected completion period before Hari Raya.

“The Perak Water Board spent RM1.32mil on the project to get the supply of fresh water from the treatment plant in Lawin,” he told reporters yesterday after witnessing the rebranding ceremony of the state-linked company Kperak, now known as Digital Perak Corporation Holdings.

On a separate matter, Ahmad Faizal welcomed the Prime Minister’s suggestion for all federal lawmakers and their families to declare their assets to the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission.

He added that all state government-linked chief executive officers should declare their assets as well.

“I declared my assets last year. All of the other state assemblymen should do so too,” he said.

On the change of name of Amanjaya Express Bus Terminal to Terminal Meru Raya, Ahmad Faizal said it was the right thing to do.

He felt it was only right to name a building or a recreational park according to its location.

Amanjaya was a tagline used by the previous state government.

“In order to promote a place, it is better to use the name of the place, such as the terminal situated in Meru Raya.

“For all other amenities with the Amanjaya tagline, we will change the names according to the area they are situated in,” he added.
