Former aide accuses MP of sexual harassment

-

PETALING JAYA: A former aide of a Perak MP has filed a police report against the lawmaker for allegedly sexually harassing her.

In her report, she claimed that the first-term MP had addressed her with endearment and even showed her the Kamasutra – an ancient Indian text on sexuality and eroticism, and pornographic images.

“From December 2018 to April 2019, I felt his behaviour had changed where he would address me as ammu (love in Tamil) and cayang (dear) every time we met and through the phone.

“His behaviour worsened when he started to send messages “ammu cyg” and “I love you” every day through WhatsApp,” the woman said in her report.

The report was lodged with the Selangor police on Thursday.

The woman said that on some days, she received up to 50 such messages.

She had tried to reason with the MP by advising him to behave like a lawmaker and that he was also a married man.

“He ignored my advice and continued to harass me immorally.

“Sometimes I would block all his calls, as sometimes he would call up to 50 times a day.

“Every time, he would cry and give the reason that he is not loved and wants to see true love,” the woman claimed.

The woman said she resigned on Dec 29 and the MP had come crying to her house and apologised to her and her husband.

“He promised not to repeat his actions and told my husband that he still needed my services.

“At the end of April, the MP made a video call and show me the Kamasutra book as well as pornographic pictures of women.

“I lost my patience and I informed my husband who told me to resign immediately,” the woman further claimed.

She said she had also approached several of his party members whom she claimed had advised the MP to stop but the latter did not heed the advice.

The MP was contacted by The Star yesterday but had yet to respond.

It is believed that the MP too had filed a police report, claiming that he was “mentally tortured” by the former aide.

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the police should investigate and act accordingly to their findings.

“We must not judge (the MP) solely based on accusations,” he said.

Wanita PKR chief Haniza Talha said the police should carry out the investigation against the MP.

“Any act of sexual harassment must be dealt with, what more (sexual harassment) accusations against an MP.

“This reminds us of the long-awaited Sexual Harassment Act which must be passed immediately in Parliament,” said Haniza.
