Gobind gives for Ramadan

Puchong MP donates RM87,000 to mosques and surau

KUALA LUMPUR: For the first time, Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo has contributed some RM87,000 to mosques and surau for activities throughout the holy month of Ramadan and the coming Hari Raya celebration.

Gobind, who is also the Communications and Multimedia Minister, said previously, he was unable to give contributions because he was not a government MP.

“This is my first time to provide allocations as a government parliamentarian because some provisions were given by the Federal Government.

“Before this, there were no such allocations and I was unable to give contributions like this.

“But now, we have and we can channel as much as we can help. This is not going to be a one-off.

“I hope, if permitted annually, that I will still contribute, not just donations for Ramadan but also assist in whatever way I can,” he said after handing over contributions to a mosque and seven surau within the Puchong parliamentary constituency in conjunction with Jamuan Moreh at Al-Falah Surau on Thursday.

Al-Falah Surau received RM3,000. Gobind said the allocation would be channelled in stages to 40 surau and 12 mosques, with each receiving between RM1,500 and RM2,000.

He hoped that the mosques and surau would put the contributions to good use, especially during Ramadan and for Hari Raya.

Gobind said those surau and mosques in Puchong, which still needed more assistance, would require to write a letter as a mandatory procedure.

Expressing his gratitude, Al-Falah Surau president Rasedi Arof said he hoped the funds would be used to promote activities in the surau.

“This is the first time a minister has come to our surau and I would like to thank (Gobind) for this contribution,” he said. — Bernama
