> Passing of an icon

The passing of SM Mohamed Idris is a great loss to CAP (Consumers Association of Penang). He championed consumer rights for a very long time. Condolences to his family. May his soul RIP. – Subra

The late crusader SM Mohamed Idris left behind a legacy for others to continue his consumer activism. May the Almighty bless him in heaven. – CT Mageswary, Ipoh

Our deepest and heartfelt sympathies on the passing of our wonderful SM Mohamed Idris, president of CAP. Alfatihah. – Hamid Khan and family Read The Star’s tribute to the late SM Mohamed Idris. It was a fitting tribute to a towering Malaysian and an illustrious son of Penang. I urge the Penang government to name a street after this consumer rights icon and passionate environmentalist who campaigned for these issues until his last breath. – Dr Haja Mohideen, Klang

The passing of SM Mohamed Idris is a great loss not only to CAP but also to all Malaysians. He made every effort to see that consumers were enlightened and ate right. He worked tirelessly and now that he is gone, a posthumous award or reward would be greatly justified. – William Ong

> Fine those polluters

I hope and pray that the government will impose hefty fines on the polluters of our rivers to keep them free from contamination so that fish will flourish in them again.

All well and good to up the ante on polluters. But do we have enough enforcement officers to enforce the new laws? A billion ringgit in fines can be imposed but are we fully equipped to catch polluters? There’s no point if it’s all talk and no action.

> Cash is king?

We earn RM3.5bil from the plastic waste industry. Does the government really want to stop it when cash is king?

> Help for ICT

Ipoh Cargo Terminal (ICT) is an investment that has not reaped a bountiful harvest. Mida (Malaysian Investment Development Authority) should establish a team to help promote ICT services in all directions. It’s a hub with potential to accelerate economic activities in Perak and along the corridor. Place the right leadership who understands exporters’ requirements. – PJ Gomes
