Farewell, Sultan Ahmad Shah

The late Pahang royalty loved many things in life, especially sports. But he loved his people more.

PETALING JAYA: Condolence­s poured in from all over the country following the death of the King’s father, former Pahang Ruler Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, conveyed their condolence­s to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and the entire Pahang royal family.

“May his soul be blessed and placed among the pious,” said a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Sultan Ahmad Shah breathed his last at the National Heart Institute at 8.50am yesterday. He was 88.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail also expressed her condolence­s to the entire Pahang royal family.

“My heartfelt condolence­s to the entire Pahang royal family over the passing of Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad Shah Al Musta’in Billah ibni Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar at the National Heart Institute this morning,” she tweeted.

Other Cabinet ministers who also expressed condolence­s via statements on their social media accounts included Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu and Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar expressed his condolence­s in a posting on his official Facebook page.

“My condolence­s over the demise of Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al Musta’in Billah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar 19302019.

“Surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return,” he said.

The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddi­n Idris Shah has meanwhile ordered that the state flag be flown at half-mast until today.

This was announced by Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari in a statement that also offered condolence­s to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the people of Pahang.

“May his soul have a good closure in life, showered with God’s blessings and placed in heaven full of bounty from God.”

Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah also ordered all flags to be flown at half mast until the royal burial ceremony is over.

This was announced by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

“Sultan Ahmad Shah has left behind many contributi­ons as the fifth Pahang Sultan and seventh Agong. “He is a Sultan known for being close to the people, friendly and approachab­le by all,” he said.

Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak also expressed his condolence­s to the King and the Pahang royal family.

“May his soul be blessed and placed among the pious,” Najib said in a posting on his Facebook page.
