Pastor to pull rickshaw from Penang to KL
GEORGE TOWN: A 60-year-old Pastor is hoping to pull a 65kg steel rickshaw from the Penang island to Kuala Lumpur – all for a good cause.
Pastor Cheah Chee Moon is looking forward to the 400km solo journey from June 29 to July 7 to help raise RM1mil for the disabled.
Last year, Cheah had also pulled the same rickshaw for over 3,000km from Johor Baru to Chiang Rai, Thailand, to raise funds for charity homes in Malaysia and Thailand.
“The most challenging part of the journey would be the hot weather but I think I should be able to overcome it. There will be moments when the mind feels like quitting but the heart says otherwise.
“I will remind myself of the goal which is to raise funds for the disabled,” the father-of-two told reporters at Kompleks Masyarakat Penyayang.
Cheah said he has taken part in more than 30 charity rides since his 40s, including on bicycles and penny-farthings.
The rickshaw charity ride, also known as Journey of Love, aims to raise RM1mil for the Eden Handicap Service Centre in Penang and Dual Blessing Bhd in Kuala Lumpur.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow is expected to flag off the charity ride at 8am on June 29 at Kompleks Masyarakat Penyayang.
The charity ride will end at the Dual Blessing centre in Jalan Hujan Emas, Kuala Lumpur.
Eden Handicap Service Centre co-founder and general manager Bertie Tye said they truly appreciated Cheah’s effort to raise the funds.
“It would be a great help to cover our operational expenses,” he said.
Also present was Dual Blessing Bhd chief executive officer Low Khee Lian.
Sponsors and donor are welcomed to support the charity event. Sponsorship package ranges between RM1,000 and RM30,000.
