Gymnast Tan’s coach to ensure consistency is Ing-rained in her
PETALING JAYA: Artistic gymnastics coach Ng Shu Wai wants Tan Ing Yueh to keep up her good form at the Asian Championship in Mongolia from June 19-22.
Ing Yueh was the toast of the national contingent when she clinched a silver medal in the floor exercise and a bronze in the vault at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup in Zhaoqing, China, which ended on Tuesday.
“She did a very clean routine. Her score of 12.900 is also her personal best. I’m very proud of her,” said Shu Wai, who has been training the women since 2015.
“I hope she can keep up her current form at the Asian Championship in Ulaanbaatar.”
The 22-year-old Ing Yueh delivered Malaysia’s first gold in the same meet in the balance beam event in 2016 but in the absence of Chinese gymnasts.
But her bronze and silver-medal feats augur well for her bid to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Ing Yueh said that the experience in China was a massive breakthrough for her.
“I feel very happy to hit my personal best in this competition. I gained valuable experience and exposure here,” said the Melaka lass.
“Now I know what I need to do to improve on my routines for upcoming competitions.
“I want to thank my coaches and teammates who have always supported and helped me throughout the competition.”
After China, the competition will head to Osijek, Croatia (May 23-26); Koper, Slovakia (May 30-June 2); and Mersin, Turkey (Aug 30-Sept 1) before it concludes with three legs in September – Szombathely, Hungary (Sept 6-8); Paris, France (Sept 14-15) and Guimaraes, Portugal (Sept 19-22).
I feel very happy to hit my personal best in this competition. I gained valuable experience and exposure here.
