SHAH ALAM: The Avisena Group has opened the largest private women and children specialist hospital in Malaysia, with 133 beds and 52 specialists.

The Avisena Women’s and Children’s Specialist Hospital was launched by Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and graced by Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Norashikin Abdul Rahman and Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah yesterday.

Avisena Group president and group CEO Datuk Dr Omar Abd Hamid said the project started three-and-a-half years ago.

He said services at the hospital include maternity, gynaecology, paediatrics and child development.

He said the Avisena Specialist Hospital, which was built in Shah Alam 11 years ago, would also be expanding.

Dr Omar said Avisena would be adding another 140 beds there for medical tourism.

The Marriot International Hotel had agreed to build a four-star hotel called Fairfield by Marriot beside the hospital, he added.

“We hope the project will be completed in four years,” he noted.

“We are confident it will bring about more interesting and dynamic medical tourism, and turn Shah Alam into a good health services hub in Selangor and Malaysia,” he said.

For the long term, Avisena Group also plans to build more hospitals in the Klang Valley and other states, he said.

Avisena Group vice-president (operations) Mazidah Umar said that besides its various sub-specialties, the Avisena Women’s and Children’s Specialist Hospital provides value-for-money boutique services such as a family suite at RM600 per night, which comes with a butler along with four meals a day.

“The services are in line with our tagline ‘With us, it’s always personal’,” she said.

The hospital also has an area for mothers to rest called Anjong Bonda.

Also present at the launch were Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari and former International Trade and Industry minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
