MELAKA: An entrepreneur’s bid to organise a mega colouring contest here to commemorate National Day has drawn overwhelming response from diverse communities.

Goh Ming Kang (pic) said the contest themed “Colours of Unity” has received overwhelming response from the Orang Asli and Portuguese communities here.

He said he was also surprised to see many pupils from Chinese and Tamil schools as well as national-type schools signing up for the event scheduled for tomorrow at Elements Mall.

The 40-year-old managing director of a food producing company in Selangor Halal Hub is offering 30 bicycles as prizes as well as colouring materials and Jalur Gemilang to all participants.

He will also be giving away bicycles to three primary school girls from Kampung Gelam.

Goh said some parents were also eager to join the event with their children.

“This shows that everyone is proud to be a Malaysian as many have signed up on short notice,” Goh said yesterday.

He thanked Melaka Action Group for Parents in Education for its help in organising the programme.

Those interested to take part can call 012-290 8103 or 019-221 7921.

Goh said he came to Melaka last month looking for cempedak in his quest to introduce the fruit to China after the Chinese food industry captains showed a keen interest in working with his company.

He was also impressed with the locals who were keen to take on the contract farming as well as to share contact details of their friends.
