PAS wants to work with GPS
Party ‘willing to act with other races if they accept our policies’
MIRI: PAS wants to forge a working relationship with Sarawak’s ruling parties from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) that is made up of all races and ethnic groups, says Sarawak PAS state commissioner Jofri Jaraiee.
He said PAS was willing to fight for Sarawak’s rights.
“PAS has often been labelled as an extremist Islamist party. This label is unfair.
“PAS is willing to work with any party and with other races if they are willing to accept our party’s policies,” he said yesterday.
He added that last week’s visit by national PAS leaders to Sarawak and their meeting with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Openg showed that this relationship was possible at both the administrative and political fronts.
“The visit by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and PAS leaders to the Sarawak Chief Minister shows that we are willing to work with a multiracial Sarawak.
“Sarawak is in the same position as Terengganu and Kelantan on the oil royalty issue.
“The Pakatan Harapan government has failed to fulfil its general election promise to give us 20% oil royalty.
“PAS will fight for Sarawak on this matter,” he said in a press statement here yesterday.
Jofri is a PAS supreme council member and Miri PAS branch chairman.
He said Abdul Hadi was here with the party’s national and state leaders for the Sept 16 National Day celebrations hosted by the Sarawak government.
Jofri also said that the PAS leaders had a fruitful meeting with Johari on matters pertaining to mutual cooperation.
