Marking the 25th anniversary of a partnership
VICTORIA University (VU) at Sunway College celebrated its 25th anniversary with two days of activities.
THESE included a full-day symposium, a fun run and several student organised events.
The symposium ‘Business Asia@21’ which saw a participation of more than 100 attendees, explored emerging trends in business, focusing on the need for businesses to be innovative to meet the demands of this century.
Topics discussed included current business challenges and best practices, highlighting practical tools, tips and techniques, and a presentation of research papers by delegates from Malaysia, Indonesia and India.
Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia Andrew Goledzinowski graced the event.
Speakers at the symposium included VU Melbourne dean School of Business
Prof Mark Farrell, Monash University Malaysia vice president, Research and Development Prof Mahendhiran Nair and Department of Management deputy head of School (Research) Prof Pervaiz Ahmed, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Malaysia country head Niloy Banerjee and Sunway University head, Centre for Higher Education Prof Glenda Crosling.
The 25th anniversary SunwayVU Partnership Run was a 5km Run around Sunway City.
Farrell flagged off close to 500 participants while 15 special needs participants were flagged off by Sunway College VU Undergraduate Programme director Greeja Hemalata de Silva.
Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng, Sunway Group exco member Puan Sri Susan Cheah and Farrell joined other guests to water 25 potted plants to commemorate the event.
Farrell said the 25th anniversary was a time to reflect on the many achievements by Sunway and VU in an enduring and successful educational partnership in Malaysia.
“The weekend was a time for old friends and colleagues to catch up, exchange ideas and reminisce,” he said.
Cheah handed over five wheelchairs donated by Sunway Medical Centre to Dual Blessing, a welfare centre which provides care and support to persons with disabilities.
Victoria University, Melbourne Transnational Education programme manager
Rashima Ghai who gave away the prizes to the special category participants, said she was fortunate to be part of both activities and enjoyed it thoroughly. “The run was well organised, congratulations to your academic and administration staff who put it together.
“It was my first run in Malaysia and I can tell you it is much harder to run in hot weather and humidity, as compared to running in Melbourne,” she said.
Students of the Sunway CPA Australia Student Charter (SCSC) and Victoria University Business Club (VUBC) at Sunway College came together to organise the ‘25 Years Movie Challenge’. A total of 120 students from various universities around the Klang Valley participated in the challenge, which required teams to compete in several stages.
Further contributing to the community and society, the VU Undergraduate Programme (VUUP) department also organised a blood donation campaign in conjunction with the celebration.
Almost 100 donors came forth to donate blood to the National Blood Centre.
