Failing SPM not the end for three high earners

-

FAILING their SPM examinations was not the end for three Akademi Binaan Malaysia (ABM) graduates, who now earn between RM15,000 and RM19,000 a month, reported Sinar Harian online.

Their success has led them to be picked as icons for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Muhamad Badiuzaman Ya Abu Bakar, 33, of Kemaman said he took a welding course in ABM because his brother had earned a lot from welding.

“I failed in school, after which my brother asked ‘don’t you want to be paid a lot?’ and showed me his salary in cash,” said Badiuzaman, who has been working for an Americanowned company in Saudi Arabia since three years ago.

The father of three said his salary was “only RM1,400” a month when he started working but it increased to RM19,000 a month after he became a welder working for a private company at sea.

Muhammad Qamarul Auji Amran, 32, of Kuala Terengganu owns a welding, piping and fabrication company in Kemaman.

“I wanted to find myself, so I looked for my path and began searching the Internet until I found some information about ABM and then did my studies there,” said the employer of more than 80 people, most of whom were educated in vocational schools.

Mohd Faizal Ismail, who works in Saudi Arabia, said he did not think that taking up a welding course in ABM would change his life forever.

“Youngsters who didn’t get good results in their academic studies should try the skills-based field,” said Mohd Faizal, adding that he once earned more than RM20,000 a month.
