Twins and couple among UTM grads
JOHOR BARU: Being mistaken for a ghost was probably the most hilarious experience that twins from Teluk Emas, Melaka, have ever gone through during their time in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
Mohammad Shukri Mohammad Hedzer and Mohammad Khairi Mohammad Hedzer, both 28, also shared that their lecturers and friends would always get them mixed up, especially when it comes to giving assignments.
“It took some time for our friends and lecturers to finally know how to differentiate between us.
“There was one incident when we both went into the restroom together, but my elder brother came out first.
“So when the people saw ‘him’ again inside the restroom, they were spooked,” said Khairi.
The twins were met after receiving their degree in petroleum engineering at the UTM’s 63rd convocation ceremony in Skudai yesterday.
Khairi said both of them had studied together since primary school.
“It’s easier for us to travel together because we are both working at a semi-conductor company in Batu Berendam, Melaka, as assistant engineers.
“We take turns to drive between the places,” he said.
A couple was also among those who received their certificates during the convocation ceremony.
Yap Sheng Lin and Chin Yong Ling, both 34, received their scrolls after completing their part-time course over a two-year period.
“I started enrolling back in 2017 to gain more knowledge.
“So I decided to take the Master of Science (construction contract management) before my husband decided to further his studies too.” said Chin.
Yap said he took the Master of Business Administration (aviation management) to make use of his free time.
“But then my wife got pregnant with our first child, so it was a bit of a challenge at first but we somehow managed it with the help from our parents and friends.
“I think the most important thing is to understand each other because we are working full time and studying part-time,” he said.
He added that they were looking forward to spending more time with their child.
A total of 4,390 graduates, including 257 international students from 38 countries, received their scrolls in various fields during the convocation.
