KOTA KINABALU: Fresh off its gold award win at the Asian Digital Media Awards, the #StandTogether kindness campaign continued its efforts by giving its top student “Kindness Ambassadors” here a special treat – a motivation session with singer Nik Qistina.

Nearly 3,000 students and teachers in every state have been elected as Kindness Ambassadors during the #StandTogether Kindness Tour organised by Digi earlier this year, as part of the wider campaign co-founded by SP Setia and Star Media Group’s R.AGE team.

The Kindness Ambassadors who could get the most student participation for their own “Kindness Talks” were promised a celebrity visit, and SM St Michael, Penampang, and SMK Datuk Peter Mojuntin were among the winners.

“I think it is very important to have students carry on the message to their peers because we have a better relationship among each other and we can communicate with each other better,” said SMK

Datuk Peter Mojuntin student ambassador Decksmillion Joimbul.

#StandTogether ambassador Nik Qistina kick-started the celebrity visits with a motivational session at both the winning schools in Sabah, but she learned just as much from the experience as the students.

“It is easy to think of ourselves as the best at what we do, but it is also okay to make mistakes to learn from them and be better in the future,” said Nik Qistina.

The top 20 schools from the Kindness Tour will also receive prizes which include LCD projectors and hard drives. For the students themselves, the real prize is a kinder school, with Decksmillion saying the campaign had changed his school for the better.

“Before this, I thought bullying was just physical or mental, but through preparing the students for the presentation, I learned a lot more; and as a counsellor, it helps me to better identify and help students who are being bullied,” said SMK Datuk Peter Mojuntin teacher Anastasia Leoh.

Digi Sustainability Associate Khaled Amru Ambok Chening was moved by how far the students and teachers had progressed since they attended the Tour workshops.

“A lot of these students were shy when they came into the workshops but now, they have taught me the value of being brave and bold.”.

The #StandTogether kindness movement was initiated by R.AGE and SP Setia to empower students to create a kinder Malaysia and was just awarded an Asian Digital Media Award in Hong Kong, adding to a World Digital Media Award from Glasgow earlier this year.

SP Setia and R.AGE will be kicking off the campaign’s third year in January 2020. For more information, go to fb.com/standtogetherMY.
