Bukit Aman hopes to get new facilities
KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is hoping for a host of new facilities and equipment, including a commuter station, an additional parking complex, as well as a multipurpose hall, says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador.
The federal police headquarters is located between the Bank Negara and Old Kuala Lumpur train stations operated by KTMB, which runs the Komuter service.
Abdul Hamid said he raised the matter of the commuter station with Transport Minister Anthony Loke recently.
“We have already identified a location for the station, which is near the entrance to Menara 2.
“The station will benefit more than 3,000 Bukit Aman personnel. At the same time, it can also be used by personnel from other agencies, including the Health Ministry and the Statistics Department,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
He added that while Loke had agreed in principal to the station, the matter was subject to government approval.
“The need for a new parking complex is also urgent as parking has always been a problem.
“We have those working in Bukit Aman coming as early as 6am just to get a nice parking spot.
“A new parking complex will certainly solve such problems,” Abdul Hamid said, adding that Bukit Aman also did not have a multipurpose hall or parade square.
“We often had to use parking space for activities, thus both structures are much needed,” he said.
Compared to the Armed Forces which had
various facilities, including its own military hospital, Abdul Hamid said it seemed that the police force was “being neglected”.
“We have water cannons which have been used for 21 years and even 42-year-old armoured vehicles.
“Our marine boats can only reach up to a speed of 10 knots,” he said, expressing hope that the government would consider granting the force’s wish list.
“We will meet the minister again and discuss further on the station. We have to finetune our proposals.
“We hope then the Home Ministry can meet with the Transport Ministry to
bring the matter forward,” Abdul Hamid said.
The event also saw Comm Datuk Seri Rosli Ab Rahman taking over from Comm Datuk Seri Tajudin Md Isa as Bukit Aman Logistics and Technology department director, with the IGP praising the latter for his 32 years of service.
“He is the embodiment of integrity, sincerity. His service to the police force and the people is priceless. We salute you,” he said, referring to Comm Tajudin.
Abdul Hamid said he was confident Comm Rosli would be able to continue Comm Tajudin’s legacy.
