PONTIAN: Police have arrested an Indonesian teenager for allegedly trafficking in drugs packaged as Chinese tea worth RM40,000 in a raid here.

Pontian OCPD Supt Mustafa Bakri Salleh said the 19-year-old labourer was one of two people arrested for alleged drug offences in two recent raids here.

During the raid in Kampung Nelayan Air Masin at around 7.30pm on Dec 18, police found the suspect behaving suspiciously.

“When he was checked, we found 800g of drugs, believed to be syabu, inside a waist bag he was carrying,” he said, adding that the drugs were worth RM40,000.

“We believe the suspect received his supply from Johor Baru, which was concealed inside Chinese tea packaging,” he added.

The suspect, he said, tested negative for drugs.

He said the drugs were supposed to be smuggled to an overseas market, in particular to Tanjung Balai in Indonesia.

Speaking at a press conference at the district police headquarters here yesterday, Supt Mustafa also said that in the second raid, a 43-year-old man was arrested at a house in Kampung Sungai Bunyi at around 10am on Dec 17.

“Following a tip-off, we picked up the suspect and found 24g drugs, believed to be heroin – valued at RM400 – in his pants,” he said.

The man, he added, tested positive for morphine and had a previous record for drug possession under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Supt Mustafa said both suspects were under remand until today and tomorrow respectively to help in investigations.
