Villagers in Perlis lose sleep over water supply woes

-

RESIDENTS of four villages in Perlis often had to sacrifice their sleep to wait for water supply to come to their houses, reported Sinar Harian.

Waini Junus, 51, said they had to forgo their bedtime to wait for the supply.

Waini said that some residents would do their laundry and dishes as late as 2am.

“But sometimes, we just don’t get water for up to three days and this is very difficult for us,” she added.

The villages, which included Kampung Seberang Tok Pi, Kampung Bahagia, Kampung Bukit Tok Poh and areas on the coast, have about 100 families.

They have been putting up with the water supply problem for the past three years.

Zahid Mahmud, 76, said the problem had been going on for so long that the residents had given up lodging complaints.

“If we don’t wait for the water supply when it comes in the middle of the night, we will have no water in the morning to shower and cook,” he said.

Kuala Perlis state assemblyman Nor Azam Karap said his office had been receiving complaints from the residents.

> A house owner in Kampung Peria Lama in Kelantan had a shock after finding a 15kg cobra trying to sneak into his house on Saturday, the daily also reported.

Che Mat Majid, 62, said the reptile did not manage to go into his house after getting stuck between a door and its frame due to the size of its head.

“Seeing the large size of the snake, I was too afraid to shoo it away or take any action on my own,” he added.

He called Civil Defence Force for assistance.

Staff from the Civil Defence Force took about 15 minutes to catch the snake, which was 3.2m long.
