Latheefa ready to give statement to police

Anti-graft chief Latheefa Koya is prepared to give her statement to the police on her allegation of a plot to tarnish her reputation.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner said an investigation had been opened to look into the complaint.

“The police have taken a statement from the first complainant, who is (special legal officer) Sasha (Lyna Abdul Latif). They might call me,” she said after a farewell ceremony for MACC deputy chief commissioner (management and professionalism), Datuk Ja’afar Mahad, who retired yesterday.

On Jan 14, the MACC lodged a police report against individuals whom they claimed plotted to tarnish the reputation of its chief.

Latheefa had earlier claimed there was a “criminal plot” to besmirch her reputation, following the commission’s disclosure of recordings involving high-ranking officials, including former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife.

The MACC released nine recordings believed to involve Najib and other former top officials on Jan 8.

Latheefa said police had completed recording statements from her and six other officers over the release of the audio recordings.

“We have given full cooperation and the police will inform us should they need to interview us further,” she said.

Besides Latheefa, 13 officers led by Supt Mohd Fazley Ab Rahman from Bukit Aman also interviewed deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki and five officers on Thursday.
